Privacy Policy
Effective June 13, 2026
This policy explains what information CrownScholar collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, not to hide behind legal language. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@crownscholar.com and we will explain it.
Who we are
CrownScholar is a scholarship and financial aid finder built for Black students and HBCU-bound students. When this policy says “we,” “us,” or “CrownScholar,” it means the operator of the website at crownscholar.com.
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, and a password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text).
- Student profile: details you choose to add so we can match you to scholarships, such as GPA, intended major, home state, grade level, HBCU interest, household income range, activities, and faith or community affiliations.
- Quiz and email signups: the email address and quiz answers you submit when you check how much aid you may be leaving on the table.
- Things you create: saved scholarships, application notes, essay drafts you run through our tools, and similar content.
Information collected automatically
When you use the site we receive standard technical information such as your browser type, device, and pages visited. We use a single secure session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising trackers that follow you across other websites.
A note on students under 18
CrownScholar is built for high school and college students, and we know many of our users are minors. The service is intended for people age 13 and older. If you are under 18, please use CrownScholar with a parent or guardian involved, especially before entering any payment. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
How we use your information
- To match you with scholarships and rank them by fit and deadline.
- To send deadline reminders, account emails, and (if you opt in) our scholarship newsletter.
- To run the AI tools you choose to use, such as the essay coach and award letter analyzer.
- To operate, secure, and improve the platform.
AI features and your content
Some features send the text you submit (for example, an essay draft or an award letter) to our AI provider so it can generate guidance back to you. That content is processed to give you a result. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to publicly identify you. Treat AI guidance as a helpful starting point, not as professional, financial, or legal advice.
When we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers that run the platform on our behalf: payment processing (Stripe), email delivery (Resend), hosting, database, and our AI provider. They may only use the information to perform their service for us.
- Legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
- A business transfer, if CrownScholar is ever acquired, in which case we will tell you first.
Payments
Paid plans are processed by Stripe. Your card number is entered on Stripe's secure checkout and is never stored on our servers. We receive confirmation of your plan and subscription status so we can enable the right features for your account.
Affiliate links
Some links on CrownScholar, such as student loan, test prep, or laptop recommendations, are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we believe are useful to students.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and personal information at any time by emailing us. Some records may be kept where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile from your dashboard, unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email, and request a copy or deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@crownscholar.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your local privacy laws, and we will honor them.
How we protect your information
We use industry-standard measures such as encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and signed session tokens. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform grows. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
